Uploads
What are the two ways I can upload files?
You can upload files in two ways. Using our web interface or using a FTP client.
Web Interface - Advantages
You get to upload multiple files at once.
Once they're uploaded, you get the option of assigning a password and protecting it.
You get to enter a description, give the option of making it a feature, and allow or deny download access.
Web Interface - Disadvantages
Ideal for files under 100 mb as file transmission via HTTP can be affected by numerous factors and one failure means that you end up restarting the file transmission from scratch.
FTP - Advantages
You get to upload multiple files at once. You can download a free FTP client software right here at FileZilla
Your file could still be part of our system folders and will be available for download via our web site.
Reliability! Ideal for large file sizes and you can pause and resume transmissions. If a transmission is interrupted in the middle, you can always restart from where you left off.
FTP - Disadvantages
Since entering a password, description, making it a feature and allow or deny download access are limited by the FTP client, your file will be just saved into our system folders.
Please do tell more about the FTP uploading feature.
You can upload files using an FTP client such as FileZilla.
If you want your uploaded file to be shared ONLY on our web site, you can use the following FTP login information:
User Name: public@youshareonline.com Password: youshareonline Server: ftp.youshareonline.com
Premium members get their own username/password for FTP access with no restrictions.
Files will take as much as 5 minutes before they start to appear on our web site.
All free files (files which are not tied to an account) will be deleted 40 days from the creation.
What are the Steps involved in uploading files using the web interface?
Step 1 - Uploading
Click on the "Upload" link from the top menu.
You will see a popup window opening up. From there, select the files which you want to upload from your computer by clicking on
"Add" button and browse. Feel free to multi select by files by pressing the left button on the mouse or pressing CTRL and clicking on them.
Click "Open" from the browser window and select "Upload" button. This will upload the files.
Step 2 - with 15 Minute Timeout
Once the upload has completed, you'll be taken to 2nd Step screen where you'll have the option of adding description, password protect and also create/add to
an existing folder. If you're not at the computer when an upload is completed, this screen will automatically timeout in 15 minutes and auto save the files. So, don't worry about sticking around to complete the transfer.
Step 3 - Link Generation for Downloads and Emailing
Once you confirm and save files from Step 2, you'll be taken to an optional Step 3 screen where links are generated automatically for the files
uploaded. This the download link for the file. You can copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the links if you want to send it a buddy or paste it in an email by clicking on the email icon.
Once the files are uploaded, how do I find them? They're no where to be found!
All uploaded files added an auto generated id and saved it in a system folder to protect the identity of the file. Use the "Search" menu from top to
search for the filename or description.
Once the files are uploaded, can I view them on the site?
Yes. Just perform a search and click on either ,
, or
icon which will be available based on the type of file.
Why is my original file renamed to underscores and I see unwanted alphanumeric characters in front?
All uploaded files with spaces in them are replaced with underscores. They're also appended with an auto generated id in front to protect the identity of the file.
This is because our video decoders do not support spaces in filenames and also to allow you to upload multiple versions of a same file.
What are the bandwidth and space limitations?
